Mankrong Junction people appeal for transformer

Mankkrong Junction (C/R), Aug 6, GNA – The Chiefs and people of Mankrong Junction have appealed to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), to replace the electricity transformer, which got burnt more than six months ago.

Alhaji Jabire Ibrahim, Assemblyman for the area, speaking to newsmen at Mankkrong Junction, said several appeals to the Agona Swedru and the Regional Office of the Company in Cape Coast did not yield any result.

He said officials at both the Swedru and Cape Coast offices told the Chief of the town, Nana Amoako Ababio II that there were no transformers and that one would be supplied immediately the situation improved.

The Assemblyman stated that a similar appeal through the office of the Agona District Chief Executive for a replacement for the transformer, which got burnt when it was hit by thunder, was not successful.

He said the non-availability of electricity was affecting small-scale industries, adding that, teachers and other government workers had threatened to go on transfer.

Alhaji Ibrahim said thieves had also taken advantage of the situation to step-up their activities since the town had been plunged into darkness, adding that, the Mankrong police had to send suspects in cells to the Swedru Police Station every night.

Nana Amoako Ababio said the people feel rejected by the government and warned that they would not vote in future elections if the situation were not rectified.

He appealed to the Ministry of Energy to expedite action on the replacement of the transformer to save industries.
