Man fined 2.5 million cedis

Tema, April 12, (Osei-Antwi) GNA – A circuit court “A” in Tema presided over by Mr Charles Asiedu fined an unemployed man who managed to enter a room through the kitchen to steal VCD deck 2.5 million cedis.

Emmanuel Afoto Odae pleaded guilty to the charges of stealing, unlawful entry and will go to jail for three years in default of payment. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Mary Assunta told the court that on February 23, 2004, at 1230 hours at Nungua, Mr Abraham Odiko while in his shop, was informed by his seven year-old sister that she had found an intruder in his (Odikro’s) kitchen.

She said Mr Odiko rushed to the house and saw Odae coming out of his room with the deck valued at 800,000 cedis.

The prosecutor said Odae dropped the deck and took to his heels and when Odiko raised the alarm neighbours came and assisted him in arresting the accused and was handed over to Sakumono police. Chief Inspt Assunta said in course of investigations, the accused said he was urgently needed money and therefore stole the deck.
