Mahama set to tour Ashanti region

President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to visit the Ashanti Region next week on a two-day working tour.

Spokesperson for the Ashanti Regional Minister, Clement Kigeri, confirmed this to Ultimate Radio.

Clement Kigeri indicated that the visit was in line with the president’s tour of all the ten regions of the country.

“You will realize that the President has decided to undertake a regional tour of the country and so far the Ashanti Region is the only region he has not visited. So this visit is in fulfillment of the promise he has made to the people of Ghana.”

He outlined that key on President Mahama’s itinerary would be to visit the Ashanti overlord Otumfuor Osei Tutu II in the Manhyia Palace, after which he will also hold discussions with other traditional authorities in the region.

“The information we have from the flagstaff house is that, when he comes, he is expected to stay in the Ashanti region for two days and there would be several platforms for him to interact with some civil society organizations.”

Mr. Kigeri says although the visit comes off next week, the date is yet to be communicated.

The president will also use the visit to inspect ongoing projects and commission completed ones. It is, however, unclear if there would be another sod-cutting for any project in the region.
