Mahama receives warm welcome in New York

A cross-section of Ghanaians gathered in New York on Sunday morning to give President John Mahama a warm rousing welcome as he arrived at his hotel in Manhattan, New York, for the United Nations General Assembly Session.

The President and first lady of Ghana as well as other members of the President’s entourage were pleasantly surprised by the warm welcome they received from a small crowd of about one hundred Ghanaians who braved the cool temperature of the late September morning to express support for their President .

Chanting songs in support of the President and the NDC led government, the boisterous group of Ghanaians, mostly from NDC USA member branches such as New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts branches turned up in their numbers to express their support for the Ghanaian leader during his first visit to the United States after the Supreme Court of Ghana affirmed him as being validly elected during the presidential polls in December 2012.

President Mahama and his entourage briefly shook hands and acknowledged the small crowd of excited supporters, who were ecstatic and deeply overjoyed to see their President. NDC USA Executives present included Nii Ashiboi Armah, Alhaji Abass Adamu, Mr. Osborne K Sam, Mr. Ato Essel Mensah, Mrs. Janet Wilson, Hajia Salamatu Issaka, Mr. S. B Agayapong.

Mr. Albert Mensah and Mr. Fatawu were among some of the New York NDC Branch executives present, while the sizeable delegation from Massachusetts included some of the branch executives such as Mr. Samson Tona, Mrs. Azumah and Mr. Kojo Aggor.
