“I think the journalists asked the President cheap bonus questions which made it easier for him (President Mahama) to give answers…” said Bernard Mornah, General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC).
Bernard Mornah described the questions as ‘cheap’ because according to him journalists could have asked more controversial issues on agriculture like the genetically modified foods as well as other challenges facing the economy; moreover, “we know the President to be a smart person and he himself alluded to the fact that he is not a teacher but a communicator”
The PNC General Secretary was commenting on the President’s interaction with journalist over the week.
As part of activities to mark his first year in office, President John Dramani Mahama met with journalists at the Flagstaff House and answered questions which are assumed to be on the minds of Ghanaians.
However, Bernard Mornah said on Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji that the type of questions the journalists asked during the encounter did not cover what might be on the minds of Ghanaians.
According to him, “the manufacturing sector is collapsing; we are not able to export. As a nation, we have sold almost every factory that we established…if you do not have an expanding industry you cannot claim that you are developing. No country in the world has survived on the anchor of exportation of primary products alone. At one point in time you have to turn them into semi-finished or finished products” however, “the President proved to Ghanaians that he was on top of issues”
