Local radio station in Obuasi burnt

Shaft FM, a local radio station at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region, was temporarily shut down on Saturday after it was gutted by a ferocious fire.

Wares, machines and documents were destroyed by the fire to the chagrin of workers and admirers. The fire was reported to have lasted for almost an hour, but there were no casualties.

Though the cause of the blaze is being investigated, it is believed to have started from an air conditioner that was close to foams and other combustible materials, according to DAILY GUIDE sources.

This is the second fire to have affected Shaft FM in less than three months, raising concerns about safety measures at the station.

An eyewitness said a presenter at the studio scented some foul smell after a blast from the air conditioner, but attempts to quench the fire proved futile.
