Let’s strengthen Ghana – UK bonds – Mahama to Cameron

Ghana’s president John Dramani Mahama has congratulated David Cameron on his re-election as UK Prime Minister.

Mahama said he hopes Ghana and the UK will strengthen their partnerships under Cameron’s new term in office.

“Your re-election to a second term demonstrates the confidence that the British people have in your leadership. It is my hope that during your new term in office, we shall continue to work together towards the strengthening of the existing bonds of friendly relations between our two nations, while sustaining the mutually beneficial partnerships between our two countries and peoples,” Mahama said in a congratulatory message to his contemporary.

He added: “Please accept, Rt. Hon. Prime Minister, my very best wishes for the personal well-being, a successful tenure, peace and continued prosperity of the British people.”

Cameron won an unexpected majority in the UK’s parliamentary elections, overturning poll predictions and sweeping the Conservatives to power.

The Conservative Party managed to secure 326 seats after 643 constituencies were counted, to the Labour party’s 230 seats, and eight for the Liberal Democrat party.

“This is clearly a very strong night for the Conservative Party,” Cameron said.
