Let cherish our peace- students

Accra, Nov. 18, GNA – The Institute of Professional Studies Coalition for Peace, a student’s society has added its voice to a call on all Ghanaians to safeguard the peace and democracy that the country has enjoyed since the inception of the fourth republic. “The Ghanaian community must be informed that peace like success, cannot be wished, every drop of it must be earned deliberately”, said Mr. Michael Adu Poku, Chief Spokesman for the Coalition. Speaking on Tuesday at a forum organised by the coalition, Mr. Adu Poku praised the country for the pivotal role it had played in bringing about peace in both regional and global affairs adding that it would be a big disgrace if we did not safeguard our own. He appealed to journalists, social commentators, political leaders and Ghanaians in general to guard against statements, which could inflame passions.

He recalled instances where peace campaigns had been trivialised and reduced to fanfares and the extent to which poverty had eaten deep into the Ghanaian fibre that people would engage in all vices for survival. The Chief Spokesman advised the Electoral Commission, the media and others related to the elections not to bow to pressure from any corner and subvert the results of the elections. “That incumbency will not be abused by duly interfering with any agency, department or institution which has a mandate in the electoral processes”, he added. According to Mr. Adu Poku, the coalition was willing to align itself with any group, which shared in its vision, objectives and mode of operation. 18 Nov. 08
