Dr David Essaw, a local governance lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), has filed his nomination forms to contest the upcoming parliamentary primaries of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Cape Coast North Constituency.
Dr Essaw, who described himself as a “home boy”, said it would take one who has lived in the constituency for a long period to understand the challenges that the people experience.
The local governance expert said he is a true party member who had provided expertise advice to top ranking NPP officials behind closed doors for several years and believe it is time for him to bring his vast experience to help the people of Cape Coast North.
Filing his nomination forms at the party’s office at the weekend, he said he had worked tirelessly for the party and is the best candidate for the party at the moment.
He was accompanied by a crowd of supporters who walked through the principal streets of Abura and its environs where the party office is situated to announce his candidature.
In an interview with Ghana News Agency, Dr Essaw said his decision to contest the seat was motivated by the desire to contribute his quota to the development of Cape Coast where he had lived almost all his life.
He expressed worry that though Cape Coast could boast of numerous highly ranked educational institutions in the country, the indigenes do not get the opportunity to attend such schools, saying education would be his topmost priority when given the nod.
Dr Essaw said Ghana and the NPP for that matter need people who are experienced in governance like him to put in place good programmes and policies for the development of the nation.
He would be battling it out with others including a colleague lecturer at UCC and the 2012 parliamentary candidate, Mrs Henrietta Abane, Mrs Barbara Asher Ayisi, a teacher at Wesley Girls’ High School and Mr Philip Longdon, a land economist.
