Leave my mother alone – Afriyie-Ankrah begs Ghanaians

Former minister for youth and sports Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has pleaded with Ghanaians to save his mother the wrath after earlier reports pointed to her selling replica jerseys in Brazil, which he says is a total fabrication.

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah was speaking on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana show on Sunday, his first public appearance after being relieved of his post following the abysmal performance of the Black Stars at the 2014 FIFA World Cup where they exited at the group stage.

There are reports of indiscipline in camp leading to the suspension of two players, Sulley Muntari and Kevin Prince Boateng, and also the refusal of the team to train ahead of the last group game against Portugal.

Other off-field issues included reports of the former minister’s mother being the main dealer in Black Stars replica jerseys in Brazil, this he totally denies and is pleading with Ghanaians to leave his mother out of this.

“My mother called yesterday and when I mentioned it was all over the news that she was selling replica jerseys, she didn’t even know what replica jerseys were.

“My mother doesn’t even live in Ghana as you know. She is retired and lives in the United Kingdom and works as an evangelist.

“She was shocked and doesn’t even understand these things, so please leave my poor mother out.

“This whole thing about my mother selling replica jerseys and my wife cooking for the team are all total fabrications. These are all manufactured lies”.

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah has been reassigned to the Presidency as a Minister of State
