Later Day Saints presents wheel chairs to the disabled

Koforidua, March 01, GNA – The Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints on Tuesday donated 250 wheel chairs to the Department of Social Welfare for distribution to the disabled in the Eastern Region. Presenting the items the Country Director of the church’s charities, Mr Bruce Kunisen, said the church was also collaborating with the Ghana Health Service to train health workers in neonatal resuscitating techniques to help reduce infant mortality. The Eastern Regional Minister, Mr Yaw Barimah who received the wheel chairs, said the government was committed to providing equal opportunity to all.

He said the government appreciated the support of institutions and organization whose activities complement the efforts of the government. Mr Barimah said in future efforts would be made to provide skill training to the disabled to enable them to compete in the labour market. The Acting Eastern Regional Director of the Department of Social Welfare, Mr G. A. Dankwah, appealed to the Eastern Regional Minister to help rehabilitate the Koforidua Remand Home.
