I Don’t Live Too Much In The Past – Otto Addo Ahead of Crucial World Cup Qualifier With C.A.R

Ghana head coach Otto Addo says his focus remains firmly on the Black Stars’ performance, not personal milestones, as his side look to seal qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.

Addo stands on the verge of history, victory over the Central African Republic (C.A.R.) would make him the first coach to qualify Ghana for two World Cups, having guided the team to Qatar 2022.

But the former Ghana international insists he is not distracted by personal achievements.

“I don’t live too much in the past. We have to think about tomorrow, we have to win this game, and then we’ll see,” Addo told reporters at his pre-match press conference.

“In a normal scenario, we still need to win the second game or at least get a draw. So, we take it game by game. Surely, I’m not thinking too much about myself, it’s about the team, and we want to win.”

The Black Stars sit top of Group I with 19 points and could book their ticket to next year’s World Cup with a win in Meknes, Morocco, if Madagascar drop points against Comoros.

Ghana remain unbeaten in their last six qualifiers and will wrap up their campaign against Comoros on Sunday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

For Addo, though, history can wait, what matters now is “getting the job done.”
