Labourer jailed 12 years for defilement

Kumawu (Ash), April 9, GNA- The Kumawu circuit court on Wednesday sentenced a 32-year-old farm labourer to 12 years’ imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a 11-year-old primary school pupil. Moro Busanga pleaded guilty.

Police Inspector Anthony Godfred Sekyi told the court that the accused stayed with the victim’s father at Anananya village in the Sekyere East district of Ashanti.

He said on Saturday, March 20, this year, the victim’s father travelled to Woraso, leaving the victim and her brother in the house with the accused.

He said at about 1800 hours, the younger brother of the victim went to bed leaving his sister.

Inspector Sekyi said immediately the boy went to bed, the accused rushed on the girl, pulled her into his room, had sex with her and warned her not to tell anyone.

The prosecution said the victim’s father on his return, detected some changes in her demeanour and questioned her. The girl then told the father how the accused had sex with her.

The matter was then reported to the police after the Effiduase Government Hospital had confirmed the girl’s story.
