Kumasi residents welcome removal of ‘nuisance’ roundabouts

Some residents in Kumasi especially those around Boadi, Kentenkrono and other areas along the Kumasi -Accra highway have welcomed the decision by the Minister of Roads and Highways for the removal all four ‘’nuisance’’ roundabouts from the roads.

The Minister of Roads and Highways, Hon. Kwesi Amoako Atta yesterday ordered immediate removal of four (4) different roundabouts located at Ejusu, Boadi junction, Oduom and Tech junction all on the main Kumasi -Accra highways to reduce series of accidents and vehicular traffic jams.

There have been several complains by motorists especially heavy-duty vehicles and long trucks for the removal of these nuisance roundabouts as it makes driving difficult for them.

Beginning his three (3)day tour to some road projects within Ashanti Region, Hon Amoako Atta announced that the said roundabouts will soon be closed down to improve good vehicular movement on the road.

OTECNEWS after the announcement spoke with a section of commuters on the road to share their views on the decision.

Speaking in an interview with OTEC FM’S Isaac Nisah Foster, drivers, residents as well as some traders operating along the highway described the decision as the right direction since series of accidents and vehicular traffic had become headache for them but wants government and the roads ministry to introduce proper measures on the road as they close down the roundabouts in avoidance over speeding which will lead to accidents and loose of lives.
