Kufuor mourns Maulvi Wahab Adam

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed shock and sorrow at the passing on of Maulvi Wahab Adam, Ameer of the Ahmadiyya Mission in Ghana on Sunday.

“The Ameer was a friend and a man with a great sense for fair play. He did not only preach peace, he practiced it. He sought to bring balance in all that he did and won the respect of all who came into contact with him,” a statement quoted him as saying.

The statement signed by his Spokesperson, Mr Frank Agyekum, said it was these qualities that made the former President to appoint him to serve on the National Reconciliation Commission and later on the National Peace Council.

“In both instances, he discharged his duties creditably and admirably. No wonder he was made Companion of the Order of the Volta, one of the highest civil awards of honour in our country,” it said.

The statement said his passing must be a great loss not only to the Ahmadi Mission in Ghana but also the worldwide movement of which he was held in great esteem.

“Ghana has lost a religious leader of great eminence. May Allah grant him peaceful rest,” it said.
