Kufuor informed of Ga Mantse’s funeral rites

Accra, Jan. 3, GNA – A joint delegation of the Ga Traditional Council and the bereaved family of the late Ga Mantse, Nii Amugi II, on Wednesday called on President John Agyekum Kufuor at the Castle, Osu, to officially inform him of the performance of his final funeral. Nii Adotey Obuor, Acting President of the Ga Traditional Council, who acted as the Spokesperson, said the Council and the family had agreed and fixed the burial rites for Saturday, January 27, 2007. Nii Amugi, who reigned for 39 years died in December 2004 at the age of 65.
President Kufuor assured the delegation that he would be personally present at the funeral to pay his last respects to the late Ga Overlord, who, he said “carried himself with dignity”. The past year, he noted, witnessed people from all walks of life streaming to the Ga Mantse’s Palace to pay their tribute to the late chief adding that, they were all waiting for the date to pay final honours to him. President Kufuor said: “Government is at one with you. Government will stand by you throughout the funeral.” Nii Amugi left behind eight children and 11 grandchildren.
