The Office of Former President John Agyekum has accused the Judgment Debt Commission of bias following its refusal to invite the former President for his side of the story before indicting him on a $2.64 million land compensation payment case involving a British Family.
The Judgment Debt Commission has questioned the appropriateness of a $2.64 million land compensation payment authorized by former President Kufuor to a British Family on his last day in office. The accusation is contained in a supposed leaked final report of the Commission.
However, the Office of the former President believes the Commission has not been fair to Mr. Kufuor. “You called the Land Valuation Board for their side of the story, but you failed to invite President Kufuor or any of his ministers for their side of the story,” his spokesperson said.
The Spokesperson for the former President, Frank Agyekum, told Atinka AM Drive host, Kwame Adinkra, that the action of the Commission gives a wrong impression about President Kufuor.
Mr. Agyekum said the office had taken the matter up and it is investigating whether the said compensation was paid or not, adding, “we will give full statement after the investigation because as we speak, the Commission has not given us the report.”
He said the Commission could have invited the Attorney General at the time for clarifications.
According to Mr Agyekum, the Former president is unhappy about the fact that the Commission failed to invite him, but went ahead to make findings on the matter, adding “it’s not fair to say President Kufour did the payment by himself because he worked with a technical team”.
