Konor calls for economic revitalization of Krobo area

Nene Sakite II, Konor of Manya Krobo Traditional Area, has called for a new development programme to advance the economic, cultural and social development of Manya Krobo.

He said, the Krobo land is endowed with a lot of natural resources, and that, there was the need for a strategic plan to effectively exploit the resources for the benefit of its people.

Nene Sakite, was speaking at this year’s celebration of the annual Ngmayem festival of the chiefs and people of Manya Krobo, at Odumase-Krobo, under the theme, “ the role of culture in sustaining peace and unity for national development.’’

He said, the traditional council had decided to create a platform online, to market the resource in the area to attract investors, and urged the people to invest in oil palm plantations.

Nene Sakite called on the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the Assembly to focus on the completion of the many uncompleted projects in the area and urged the Assembly to concentrate on sanitation and environmental issues, in the awake of the cholera and Ebola outbreaks.

Ms. Mavis Ama Frimpong, the Deputy Eastern Regional Minister, called for the promotion of the culture of the people to attract investors to the country.

She said, the ‘’Dipo rites’’ has gained recognition worldwide and there was the need to modernize it to serve as a tourists attraction.

“It is necessary to maintain its traditional importance of nurturing young girls to become responsible mothers.”

Ms Frimpong called for collective efforts to sustain the peace in the country and advised that, in doing so, the role of culture must not be downplayed.
