Klottey Korle contest: Ashitey’s co-plaintiff withdraws

The co-plaintiff of Nii Armah Ashitey in his eligibility suit against the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Klottey Korle constituency Dr. Zanetor Rawlings has pulled out of the case.

Nii John Coleman is yet to give his reasons for pulling out as his lawyer claims ignorant of the decision.

According to Starr News’ Wilberforce Asare, lawyer for Coleman,Gary Nimako told the court Friday that his client did not also tell him about his decision to change counsel.

Among other things the two said it will be a breach of the NDC’s rules if the daughter of former President Rawlings is allowed to contest the seat on the ticket of the party since she is not a registered voter in the constituency.

Their request for the Electoral commission to provide them information on “Whether or not Dr. Ezanator (Zanetor) Rawlings is a registered voter within the meaning of Article 94 (1)(a) of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana” has been heeded to by the commission.

The EC in their response said Dr. Rawlings is not a registered voter.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ashitey, who is also the incumbent MP for the area, has dropped the suit against the EC as the third respondent in the case.

The case has been adjourned to March 18.
