Kasoa new market needs immediate attention – Association

The President of the Kasoa Traders Association has appealed to the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development to help reconstruct the new Kasoa Market that needed urgent attention.

Currently, the Awutu Senya Municipal Assembly together with the Association and some private individuals are constructing new stalls for the traders at the market. When completed, the new Kasoa Market will be the biggest market in the whole of West Africa.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, Mrs. Elizabeth Aryee and Mr. Haruna Tetteh Mensah, the President and the General Secretary of the Association said they spearheaded the relocation of the old market to its present site.

“In 1989, we realized that the old market place was in a bad state and could be demolished in future to pave way for the road re-construction, which was on the drawing board long ago. Consequently, we approached some chiefs to acquire a suitable place for re-location.”

In 1991, the then head of state, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings cut the sod for construction after all formalities have been met.

Due to lack of funds, the market could not be constructed until a Swedish NGO provided the seed money and with the co-operation of the Assembly and government some work started.

Actual construction started during President J.A Kufuor administration in 2001.
