Crack undercover journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas has been invited to appear before the five-member body presiding over an impeachment petition he brought against 34 judges in Ghana.
Anas has provided incriminatory video and audio evidence against the judges who fell for various forms of inducements such as sex, foodstuff and money to free or mitigate sentences of suspects before them.
Twenty-two of the judges – mainly magistrates – are on suspension while 12 high court judges have until the close of Monday, September 14, 2015 to respond to the petition.
Starrfmonline.com can confirm Anas is appearing before the inquiry body for the first time on Tuesday to testify as well as be cross-examined by the counsel of the indicted judges.
Anas, who is also a trained lawyer, is currently in Kumasi attending the Ghana Bar Association (GBA) annual conference. He told Starrfmonline.com he would honour the invitation.
Meanwhile, one of the High Court judges, Justice Paul Derry, has sued the investigative journalist over the act.
He is seeking 17 reliefs from the Accra Fast Track High Court. Among his prominent request is “A declaration that the 1st Defendant (Tiger Eye PI) obtained the contents of the audio-visual recording unlawfully.”
The suit was filed today, Monday, September 14. He is the first suspect to have formally taken legal action against Anas amidst concerns that a lot more will follow. The Attorney General and the Chief Justice were also sued as defendants in the suit.
The Attorney General is also pressing charges against the 22 judges and magistrates who were indicted in the corruption scandal.
