God has to intervene to save Ghana from doom after 34 judges allegedly sold their conscience to sell justice, according to Most Rev. Charles Palmer-Buckle.
The Accra Metropolitan Archbishop of the Catholic Church said the corruption scandal, which has hit the judiciary is a “sad” development, since that arm of government is supposed to be one of the strongest pillars of the country’s democracy.
“The judiciary is supposed to defend the poor people in the country, but if because of money they cannot stand for the truth, then the future of this country is not bright,” Most Rev. Palmer-Buckle said at the dedication of the St Barnabas Catholic Church at Haatso in Accra.
The Church has also been elevated to a parish status.
The respected religious leader has therefore called on Ghanaians to go down on their knees and has for God’s forgiveness for Ghana following hardcore video evidence implicating the 34 judges and over a 100 Judicial Service staff in one of the biggest scandals in Africa.
Seven of the High Court judges and 22 magistrates have been suspended after a prima facie case was established against them in an undercover work by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas.
The Police Criminal Investigations Department is also probing the indicted members of the bench and their cronies in the bribery sleaze.
