Cape Coast, Aug 25, GNA – Mr Deresfold Acquah, a Circuit Court Judge at Cape-Coast, has deplored the conduct of many Ghanaians who cause irreparable damage to the reputation of others. Mr Acquah expressed regret that it has now become common for some citizens to insult their chiefs, the President, ministers of state and district chief executives with impunity and blamed the situation on the “weak, relaxed nature of the laws on defamation”.
He said this when a 24-year-old woman, Selina Amonoo, was brought before him for allegedly insulting her 58-year-old landlady who is also the Headteacher of the Kwegyir Aggrey Memorial Primary School at Cape-Coast.
She pleaded not guilty to abusive conduct and is on 10 million cedis bail to re appear on September 7.
Chief Inspector Hope Azazoo told the court that in February Madam Theresa Mensah, who shared the same corridor with the accused, cautioned her against her unhygienic practices and she took offence. Selina insulted Madam Mensah calling her a witch, barren, a monkey and an ugly woman who was envious of her.
