Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Oduro Sarfo, has moved to clarify public concerns over the fuel budget allocated for the Black Stars’ World Cup qualifying assignments.
Speaking to Oyerepa FM, Oduro Sarfo dismissed suggestions that the funds were solely for powering the team bus, describing such claims as misleading.
“The fuel budget is not for the Black Stars bus alone,” he explained. “It extends to vehicles for referees, the match commissioner and other key officials. Anyone reducing it to just the team bus is either exposing their ignorance or intentionally peddling lies.”
The issue of national team expenditure has become a talking point following the Sports Ministry’s announcement of significant budget cuts for the qualifiers against Chad and Mali. The government said the move was necessary to ensure fiscal prudence and transparency in line with President John Mahama’s directive.
The GFA, meanwhile, has indicated it will provide a detailed response to the Ministry’s budget breakdown after the current round of matches.
Ghana will face Chad on Thursday, September 4, in N’Djamena before returning to host Mali in Accra on Monday, September 8, as they continue their bid to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
