Parents have been urged to show keen interest and actively participate in the education of their children as only a “home-school partnership” can nurture a well rounded and highly motivated personality.
The Founder and General Overseer of the Divine Grace Temple, Bishop Charles K. Boakye who gave the advice emphasized that parents must not only pay their children’s fees but must go a step further by showing keen interest in their children’s studies at home.
Bishop Boakye said this when he inaugurated the Youth Ministry Department of Divine Grace Temple at Asawasi, a suburb of Kumasi.
He noted that parents’ involvement in their children’s education has been shown to have positive results in various aspects of child development such as behaviour, social-emotional development and academic performance.
Bishop Boakye said, findings of several children’s educational researches conducted in the US and Greece overwhelmingly supported the active involvement of parents in the education of children.
He however warned parents who renege on their responsibilities and thereby denying their children education, to have a rethink.
“It will be a calamity for a parent, at this age and time, to deny his or her child education. It will only amount to jeopardising the child’s future well being,” he said, adding that “it will not be in the interest of any parent, family, community, family and in fact Ghana, to deny any child formal education.”
According to Bishop Boakye, the future of the church and country depended on the youth and it was therefore imperative that young people were involved in all activities conducted in the church and in the community.
Bishop Boakye swore a ten-member executive committee of the Youth Ministry, who were democratically elected, into office for a two-year period.
The youth president, Alfred Otoo urged the youth to live above reproach and shun activities that will not bring honour to themselves and God.
Earlier, the youth donated a set of musical drums valued at GH 2,000 to the church.
