Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has openly questioned the leadership of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo, stressing that repeated mistakes cannot continue to be excused during the country’s World Cup qualifying campaign.
Speaking in an interview with Citi FM, Mr Adams said while the coach has admitted to errors and taken responsibility, that in itself is not enough.
“If I tell you I am impressed [with Otto Addo], then it means I do not know my job. I am not. Even when you meet the coach himself, he admits that he got things wrong and takes responsibility. But the question is: for how long will you continue to take blame for wrong decisions?” he asked.
The comments come in the wake of mounting pressure on the Black Stars after inconsistent results in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, including a frustrating draw against Chad.
Adams, however, stopped short of calling for Addo’s dismissal, instead suggesting that the coach must quickly correct his approach to restore confidence among fans and ensure Ghana secures a place at the World Cup.
Ghana currently sit top of Group I but face strong competition from Comoros and Madagascar as the qualification race tightens.
