I could have won with a wider margin – Sam George

NDC parliamentary candidate-elect for Ningo-Prampram Samuel George has indicated that he could have won the Sunday primary with a wider margin if the voters’ register for the constituency had been changed.

According to him, he allowed the election to proceed with a compromised register because of party unity.

The controversial young politician won the polls with 4910 votes representing 63.5% as against the former Sports minister E.T Mensah’s 2831 representing 36.5% of total votes cast.

The internal poll was marred by chaos on Saturday following allegations of attacks by both camps, forcing the elections to be suspended.

George and his supporters had alleged that the voters’ register was flawed accusing Mr. Mensah of manipulating the list on the roll.

Speaking to Accra-based Asempa FM Monday, the presidential staffer told Kwabena Asare Baffour Acheampong, popularly known as Kaba, that he would have done better with the votes if the party executives had agreed to his plea for the register to be changed.

“I wasn’t surprised at the margin because I worked hard and I knew what we had done.

“Even with this, we used the same register I complained about on Saturday, but I allowed it to proceed because of party unity. I know it would have been wider if the register had been changed because many of my supporters still couldn’t vote,” he stated.
