Ho NPP feeds Ken Kuranchie with banku and tilapia

As the Managing Editor of the Daily Searchlight newspaper settles into his cell at Ho in the Volta Region to begin his 10-day sentence, the Ho branch of the News Patriotic Party (NPP) has donated ‘banku’ and Tilapia and other food items to support his stay behind bars.

The Chairman of the Volta Regional branch of the party, Ken Wood Nuworsu who presented the food items to the latest inmate of the Ho prisons said Mr. Kuranchie looked sober, but in good spirit especially after seeing the crowd of party supporters who had gathered outside the prison singing in support of him.

Nuworsu praised Kuranchie for his boldness and loyalty to the party, and promised that the party will continue to provide him and other inmates with three square meals a day until he (Kuranchie) completes his sentence.

He said the party has arranged for a team to visit him daily throughout the sentence period.

Meanwhile, at the offices of the Daily Searchlight newspaper, the atmosphere was quiet and solemn, though workers were going about their duties, most of whom, were in black clothes.

Some of the reporters expressed shock at their boss’ sentence, but said they were determined to hold the fort until his return.

Some even down played the 10-day sentence, describing as nothing.

A reporter, Deborah Esi Acquah, said the announcement was ‘shocking’ but says ‘life must go on’.

She was optimistic that Mr. Kuranchie will return from jail with more vigor to work.

A staff graphic designer, Silke Sam, said they saw the sentencing unfold on TV, but prayed their boss will return fit after serving the sentence.

Another worker, Bernard Dadzie who was in court with Mr. Kuranchie described his boss as respectful and down to earth and, therefore, sees no basis for the argument by a section of the public that he showed disrespect to the court, which led to his conviction.

Dadzie says a group of workers will visit the editor before the end of the week.
