HIV/AIDS having a toll in West Akyem District

Out of 45 people screened for HIV/AIDS in the West Akyem District in the Eastern Region between January and September this year, 21 tested positive.

Out of the 189 voluntary blood donors, four tested positive, according to reports from the District Health Management Team for the end of the third quarter of the year.

The District Chief Executive, Mr. Umar Amoah, speaking at the commissioning of the Abotare Ye Herbal Clinic at Odumkyere-Darmang, said the assembly had in line with this, drawn up a five-year strategic framework in line with the HIV/AIDS District Response Initiative.

The assembly has also drawn up an action plan and budgeted 20.7 million cedis to manage the disease in the district next year. “We are also poised to prevent the spread of the disease,” Mr. Amoah said.
