Health workers urged to intensify education on hygiene, environment

Cape Coast, Aug 15, GNA -Okofo Amoako Bondam III, Paramount Chief of the Enyanmaim Traditional Area, on Thursday urged health workers to intensify public education on sound hygienic and environmental practices to enhance national development.

Okofo Bondam urged the regional health directorate to make the awards an annual event to motivate their workers to give off their best. He made the call at a ceremony in Cape Coast to award staff of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) in the Central Region, who were dedicated to sound environmental practices.

The occasion that coincided with a send-off ceremony for the Regional Director of Health and four other doctors, including Dr Aaron Offei, was under the theme “Achieving excellence in health care delivery.”

Dr Offei called on health workers to work harder to improve the health service delivery.

Madame Prudence Nangbule, of the Assin Fosu District hospital, was adjudged the best district health worker, Madam Monica Effina of Assin-Praso the best community service worker and Magdelene Acquah of Cape Coast Metropolitan hospital the best clinical health service worker.

The award for the best health nurse went to Madam Margaret Forson of the Assin-north District hospital, Madam Elizabeth Wilson, was the best training school tutor and Mr John Anann of the Twifo-Praso District hospital, the best hospital staff.

The award winners were presented with 21-inch colour television sets, table-top refrigerators, and certificates and a plaque each. The Twifo-Praso District hospital was the best performing district hospital, while the Kasoa Health center, won the award for the best performing health centre. The two facilities were each presented with a television set.
