Mr John Kwao Sackey, Ga East Municipal Chief Executive, has said access to health care within the Municipality, has improved due to the collaboration between public and private health care providers.
This has also improved the usage of health care facilities, which had an increment in Out -Patient Department cases in the Municipality. Mr. Sacke y made the remarks at the second meeting of the Ga- East Municipal Assembly at Abokobi in Accra on Thursday.
He said through this hard work, the Municipality has met the World Health Organization criteria for certifying as a Guinea Worm-free Municipality, which was a plus to the Assembly.
Mr Sackey said the Taifa Polyclinic has been awarded a provisional accreditation under the National Health Insurance Scheme, and that residents will no longer move from the area to access health care with their NHIS cards.
He said there were educational projects spread across the Municipality, which were all funded with the Assembly’s Common Fund, and that most of the projects were at the completion stage.
The Chief Executive said the Municipality has 10 on-going projects with funding from the Ghana Education Trust Fund, and that the educational sector continues to benefit in diverse ways.
He said two out of six on-going projects under the District Development Facility have been completed and handed over to Kwabenya and Dome. Mr Sackey said the Agricultural sector continues to play a very critical role in the economy, despite the challenges of rapid urbanization and funding.
He said as part of activities to increase the production and incomes of farmers for sustainable livelihood, interventions in the areas of cockerel production on a larger scale, is being undertaken with support from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
“A total of 10 farmers are also benefiting from the West African Agriculture Productivity Programme on Maize and Cassava demonstration and planting material multiplication.
Nii Aryee Ayirtey, Presiding Member of the Assembly, thanked members for their support, and urged staff of the Assembly to continue to show their commitment and dedication towards development activities within the Municipality
