The objective of Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) is to produce a total scholar with the capacity to confront and tackle the problems of the times.
His or her training and focus should reflect the socio-economic settings and projections of the country, sub-region, continent and the world.
Dr Osei Darkwa, President of GTUC, made this remarks in a speech read on his behalf at the maiden matriculation of intakes for the Ho campus of the College.
A total of 56 students, 33 for the Faculty of Informatics and 26, Faculty of IT Business, for degree and diploma courses matriculated.
Dr Darkwa said: “GTUC will give you the tools to reason, make judgments, to ask tough questions and to become a critical thinker.
“If you apply yourself, GTUC will enable you to be the entrepreneur or ICT guru you desire to become.”
Dr Darkwa said, at GTUC, there is the opportunity for students to have their “hidden talents discovered and known talents fine-tuned”.
“We need people who are bold and confident and are ready to lead this country and the sub-region to the future.”
He said the fresh students had entered the College at a time it is undergoing some transformational institutional reorganization in nine key areas.
These include “major physical and technological infrastructural upgrade to provide learning space and cutting-edge resources to enhance your studies,” and “decentralisation and establishment of campuses in multiple cities within the country as well as campuses in the sub-region, in Togo, Nigeria, Gabon and the Gambia.”
Dr Darkwa said the students are entering GTUC also at a time the country is trying to find lasting solutions to “power and energy crises” and at a time that globalisation “defines the market for capital, labour and many goods and services”.
Wisdom Salami-Deku, Lecturer, Faculty of IT Business said the choice to be at GTUC is that of the students, which they must defend, because whatever they make out of the opportunity would stay with them forever.
Mr. Frank Senyo Loglo, Assistant Registrar, GTUC, Ho Campus administered the Matriculation Oath while Mr. Redeemer Agbodza read expectations of the matriculating students ,asking for the improvement of internet connectivity on campus, a cafeteria and a bus shuttle.
Mr. Agbodza said the students are excited about the emerging graduate level programmes and the College’s partnership with other schools of repute across the world.GTUC, established eight years ago is a College of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
