The Ghana Technology University College (GTUC) has introduced certificate programmes to provide graduates with relevant knowledge and practical skills to facilitate job creation.
The training programmes are expected to equip students with comparative practical skills relevant to current technological trends and advancements.
Dr. Osei Darkwa, President of GTUC announced these on Wednesday during an orientation ceremony for 45 fresh students admitted to pursue two-month training in certificate technician programmes.
The training would afford students the opportunity to pursue certificate in tablet computer repair, mobile phone repair, personal computing repair, computer networking and web designing.
Dr. Darkwa said the programmes were designed to make graduates more employable and marketable.
He said workers in the 21st century needed essential knowledge, skills and dispositions to be able to cope with the increasingly information driven and technologically powered world.
Dr Darkwa said “for accelerated development through job creation and income generation, there is the need to acquire collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking and problem-solving skills”.
Dr Robert Baffour, Vice President of the College asked the students to study hard to improve their skills and capacity.
He said: “Ghana can only move to a consolidated middle class when people are hard working and strive to do so. People must establish businesses to create jobs and generate income”.
Fresh students at the Kumasi campus of the College participated in the orientation through video conferencing.
