GSTS re-opening postponed indefinitely

Takoradi, May 10, GNA – The authorities of the Takoradi Ghana Secondary Technical School (GSTS) have postponed indefinitely the re-opening of the school for the third term, scheduled for May 11, 2005. A new re-opening date would be announced after a committee set up by the Western Regional Directorate of Educate to investigate recent student disturbances had presented its report, a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by Mr Thomas Mensah, the Headmaster of the school, said.

About a month ago, students of the school went on a four-hour peaceful demonstration, accusing the headmaster of mal-administration, misuse of school funds and dictatorship among other grievances. This prompted the Regional Director of Education and the school Board to institute a five-member committee to investigation the allegations against the headmaster.
