Group to organise voter roll vigil

The Coalition for Free, Fair and Transparent Elections is set to organise a vigil in Accra on Saturday January 9, to put pressure on the Electoral Commission to initiate electoral reforms.

According to the coalition, the works of the Electoral Commission (EC) is clouded in secrecy and are, therefore, calling on the EC to be more transparent and accountable to the people of Ghana.

A convener of the Coalition, Ken Kuranchie, speaking to Class news said: “We are saying that the entire operations of the EC lead only to worry, it cannot lead to faith, it cannot lead the people to believe in the EC as being free, fair and an impartial arbiter in the electoral process”.

The Electoral Commission, based on advice from the five-member panel of eminent persons constituted to consider arguments about the sanctity of the 2012 voter roll, last week rejected calls for a new register of voters for the 2016 elections.

The EC’s decision has been met with fury by the biggest opposition party and pro-NPP pressure group Let My Vote Count Alliance.
