Inside Ghana, a pressure group, on Tuesday petitioned Parliament to compel the Minority Leader, to substantiate his alleged statement of government appointees siphoning state funds to build filling stations and hotels.
Mr Spencer Quaye, Convenor of the Pressure Group, said Mr Osei Kyei- Mensah-Bonsu, the Minority Leader, on March 9, read a statement at a press conference, and alleged that some government appointees, including Ministers and Deputy Ministers, are stealing funds to construct hotels and filling stations.
Mr Quaye, at a press conference in Accra said, the group was calling on Parliament to refer the Minority Leader to the Privileges Committee, for appropriate sanctions to be preferred against him, should he fail to substantiate the allegations
The pressure group are also calling on Parliament to make the legislator render an unqualified apology to the Executive, Legislature and the people of Ghana, if he fails to substantiate his alleged claims on these government officials.
“ As a pressure group interested in fighting corruption, we wrote to Mr Kyei-Mensah to make public the names of these appointees involved in the crime for investigation, but after giving him a seven-day ultimatum, he has failed to response, hence the need for the petition,” he added.
Mr Quaye said the fight against corruption required collective efforts of all citizens and called on all organizations to support the call for the creation of a healthy political environment to enhance development.
The group believed that the conduct of the Legislature would bring the image of the arm of government into disrepute should he refuse to prove the alleged claims on government appointees.
“We assure Ghanaians to heed to the call of ending the myriad of unfortunate and irresponsible comments on the airwaves and work assiduously to demand for accountable politics of issues and not insults”.
