GPRTU bemoans unlawful parking of drivers

The Sunyani branch of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union has bemoaned the behaviour of taxi drivers who park at unauthorised places impeding efforts at managing vehicular traffic.

The union said most drivers parked their cars at an uncompleted parking lot near the Sunyani Coronation Park, adding that this unlawful practice amounted to cheating other taxi drivers who complied with the laws of the district assembly by loading passengers from the main station.

Mr Anim Boateng, First Trustee of the Union, told Ghana News Agency that the taxi drivers, after off-loading passengers, were supposed to return to the main Nana Bosoma Lorry Park which is the assembly’s recognised station for taxi drivers.

He said to deal with the wrong parking, the union’s station guards and assembly’s task force engaged in towing taxis parked at the parking lot which resulted in misunderstanding between the union and the drivers.

He, therefore, urged the drivers to obey the laws of the assembly to bring sanity to the operations at the lorry park.
