GPHA Receives Final Keta Harbour Project Report

The final feasibility study report for the proposed Keta New port development in the Volta region has been presented to the technical officials of Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) at Tema.

The project, which is expected to cost $365million, would be executed under public private partnership (PPP), and is being spearheaded by Volta Foundation with DY Engineering, an international and reputable South Korean firm taking charge of the main construction works.

Mr. Shan Seonghan Kim, the Senior Director of Overseas Project Division of DY Engineering, making the presentation of the final drawings of the project, indicated that the company was grateful to the Ghana port officials for opening their doors to them. He expressed the hope that government would accept the report for them to work together on the project.

Receiving the report on behalf of the Ministry of Transport the Acting Director of the Tema Port, Mr. Jacob Adorkor asked the South Korean firm to modify the drawings to accommodate three additional berths for future expansion.

The Acting Director noted that the port authority as an implementing agency sees the importance of the project since the Keta Basin has been identified as a huge oil production point in the country.

On his part, the President of Volta Foundation, Dumega Raymond Okudzeto, who led the group which included some chiefs from the area, was grateful to the port officials for the continuous rapport between them and indicated that the project would be another huge economic door for the country.
