Dr Susubribi Krobea Asante, Omanhene of Asokore, has called on the government to do more to open up the rural areas to make life better for the population.
He said although some progress had been made over the years, a lot needed to be done to help the people in those areas out of the deprivation, adding that their roads largely remain poor and there is lack of safe drinking and electricity.
Dr Asante made the call when he toured a number of farming communities in his traditional area including Ahensan, Akokoaso, Naama, Senchi, Odurokrom, Okaikrom, Attakrom, Atonso and Ahwerewa.
He was there to interact with teachers and school children to learn at first hand their main challenges and what the traditional council could do to fix some of these.
He said everything should be done to ensure that the rural population is given their fair share of the “national cake” and promised to make sure that more brilliant but needy school children in the area benefit from a scholarship scheme he had established.
Nana Tweneboah Kore II, the Akwamuhene of Ahensan, complained about the lack of electricity in the community, something he said, was adversely affecting the teaching and learning of Information Communication Technology (ICT).
Madam Leticia Omane, head teacher of the Ahensan Primary and Junior High School, appealed for text books and accommodation for the teaching staff.
