Participants at a forum have appealed to Parliament to urge government to allow broad national debate possible review its policies on the water sector.
The call was contained in a resolution adopted at a day’s forum on the private sector participation of the sector.
It was jointly organised by the Trades Union Congress (TUC) and the Integrated Social Development Centre (ISOEC) for the Bekwai District Council of Labour.
The resolution did not accept the argument that a changeover from public control into private hands would enhance efficiency in the management of the sector.
It said to ensure that water remained within the reach of both the rich and the poor it should not be privatised.
The resolution opposed to moves by the government to sell the Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB) saying that would bring untold hardships to the rural population and workers in the districts.
Earlier, Mr Adams Sandu, Ashanti Regional Secretary of the TUC, Mr Sadik Yakubu, Brong-Ahafo Regional TUC Secretary and Mr Seth Sakyiama, Regional Co-ordinator of ISODEC for Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo took turns to explain the issues involved in the water privatisation.
