Gomoa Abora, March 12, GNA – The Member of Parliament for Wenchi West, Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has called on the government to invite anti-corruption institutions like the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) and the Bureau of National Investigations to investigate accusations of corruption levelled against its ministers and top functionaries before the general elections this December.
Mr Asiedu Nketia wondered “why President J.A. Kufuor had refused to allow his ministers and functionaries to be investigated even when the crime was committed at his own office.”
Speaking at annual get together of members of Gomoa West constituency branch of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at Gomoa Abora near Apam, the MP reminded the president that clearing the ministers and the functionaries of any wrong doing would rather do the government and the party a lot of good.
He said because NPP members and supporters were enjoying the interventions meant to alleviate poverty, they did not see anything wrong about the economy and therefore continue to claim that all was well with Ghanaians.
He urged supporters of the NDC and other opposition parties to register massively to enable them to vote out NPP, come December. Dr Ato Quarshie, MP for Komenda-Edina-Eguafo Abirem and Central Regional Chairman of the NDC called on Ghanaians not to wait for things to get out of hand before complaining but to act immediately to remedy any bad condition.
Mrs. Margaret Clarke-Kwesie a former Minister in the NDC administration called on the government to listen to the cry of the people especially the rural dwellers whose conditions of living had been worsened by the high increase in fuel prices including kerosene and utility services.
Dr Tony Aidoo, a former deputy minister expressed concern about the hypocritical stance of some religions leaders who did not see anything wrong about some statements made against Flt. Lt. J.J. Rawlings and top officials of his government while they were in office but now perceived the same words being used against officials of the NPP as insults. Mrs Ama Benyinwa-Doe, MP for Gomoa West who organised the reception called on government functionaries, especially DCEs not to use criticisms of the of government to deny the constituents of opposition MPs their share of development project.
