Gov’t provides additional GHC150K to fight meningitis in B/A

Government has given GHC150,000 as additional fund to the Brong Ahafo Region to help fight further the outbreak meningitis.

The Minister of Health, Alex Segbefia, disclosed this in a phone interview while interacting with health directors in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The Region has since the outbreak in December, 2015 recorded 55 cases across five districts namely Tain, Techiman North, Techiman South, Wenchi and Kintampo.

With 19 dead so far, the Region is battling with re-emerging cases in Techiman and Wenchi, according to the Acting Regional Health Director, Kofi Essah.
The intervention package includes logistics and a review of all health insurance claims for accelerated payments.

The Region has already benefitted from GHC30,000.

The Deputy Minister of Health, Dr Victor Asare Bampoe said government will do all it can to control the outbreak in the shortest possible time.

He is in the region to ensure best management of the outbreak and to strengthen capacity of health workers.

He is accompanied by the Director General of the Ghana Health Service and Director of Public Health.
