The Government of Ghana has directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in memory of Defence Minister Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others who lost their lives in a military helicopter crash.
The tragic accident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region as the officials were travelling to Obuasi on official assignment.
In announcing the directive, Chief of Staff Julius Debrah conveyed the government’s profound grief over the loss of the two senior ministers and their colleagues.
“The President and the government extend condolences to the families of our comrades who died in service to the country. All flags are to fly at half-mast until further notice,” he stated.
The Ghana Armed Forces have assured that further updates will be provided as investigations into the cause of the crash progress.
