Government to reduce petroleum taxes

Accra, March 5, GNA – The government on Thursday announced the reduction of taxes on petroleum products in fulfilment of its promise to

reduce the price of petroleum products. Presenting the government’s 2009 budget statement to Parliament in Accra, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor said the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) would make the necessary announcement as soon as parliament endorsed the proposals. Dr Duffuor said the reduction was in fulfilment of the manifesto of the NDC to reduce the prices of petroleum products and alleviate the hardships that the people have faced in recent times. “Madam Speaker, when this is done we expect transport agencies to show good faith and reciprocate government’s gesture by passing on the reductions on to the travelling public,” the Minister said. 5 March 09
