Ghanaians will live to regret if they trust Prez Mahama – Methodist Bishop

The Kumasi Methodist Diocesan Bishop, Right Professor Osei Safo Kantanka, has called on Ghanaians not to trust President John Dramani Mahama, regarding his proposal to implement free Senior High School (SHS) education policy.

He emphasized that Ghanaians will live to regret it if we take him serious. “If we trust him for his word, we would eat our kenkey without pepper and fish,” he said literally.

Professor Safo Kantanka told the Church during a communion service at the Kumasi Wesley Cathedral in Adum, last Sunday, that the much-touted ‘free education’ refrain by politicians of the main political parties in Ghana, the ruling National Democratic Party (NDC) and the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) is to lure Ghanaians for their votes.

He said the number one problem which has befallen Ghana is the growing unemployment and that the youth ought to be employed to earn a healthy living, instead of a free education, which has become the priority of the Ghanaian politician.

The graduate and non-graduate unemployment in Ghana is increasing by each passing day, as the economy fails to create employment for the teeming youth in the country.

The Methodist Bishop, therefore, urged parents and guardians to work hard and earn income to provide quality education for their wards, and forget about the promises of Nana Akufo-Addo and other Ghanaians politicians.

The Kumasi Diocese Bishop indicated that infrastructure at our universities is being stretched to the breaking point, without any assistance coming from the Government and yet we are being told by our leaders that there is going to be free education at the Senior High School.

The prelate cum academician explained that his position did not mean he is against any political party, except that he was telling Wesleyans and Ghanaians the reality of life. He urged Ghanaians to be prayerful and work hard.

“Let your child’s education be your priority. Help them to climb higher academic calendar from your own toil, instead of relying on politicians who are only interested in your votes,” Bishop Safo Kantanka advised.
