Ghanaians are being incited to boycott public transports and walk to work in protest of high transport fares.
According to the communications officer of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Solomon Nkansah, the leadership of the Ghana Private Roads Transport Union (GPRTU) are in bed with the opposition New Patriotic Party to sabotage the government.
He said Ghanaians are being cheated because the union’s decision to reduce transport fares just five percent in spite of the 10% decrease in petroleum products is aimed at making the John Mahama-led administration unpopular.
“Ghanaians should boycott the GPRTU; if possible walk to work to ensure they reduce transport fares,” Nkansah told Adom FM.
He alleged the GPRTU leadership is made up of NPP sympathizers who are bent on giving the government a bad image.
On Monday, Nkansah stressed: “ Their National Chairman, their general secretary and many of their regional chairmen are members of the NPP and for that matter, they allow their partisan considerations into a lot of things.
“During former President Kufuor’s regime, the NPP first increased fuel by 64% and the GPRTU was made to increase fares by 15% the following period they increased fuel by 90% the GPRTU was made to increase fuel by 20%.”
