Pastor Joe Hagan, a Senior Assistant Registrar of the Valley View University in charge of University Relations, has urged the media to be circumspect in their reportage to help promote peace and tranquility in the country.
He said the media plays a crucial role in “our daily lives” and must therefore report accurately, fair and truthfully, to help in shaping the society in the right direction.
Pastor Hagan made the call at the launch of the Ghanaian Monitor, a weekly newspaper, in Koforidua on Thursday.
Pastor Hagan said as the Ghanaian Monitor was being added onto the “explosion” of the media in Ghana, it would help create jobs for more talented journalists.
He said for the newspaper to succeed, hate languages and activities that would divide the society must be avoided at all times and added “If you are not going to work on these things there will be no readership.”
Nana Kwame Oppong Owusu III, chief of Jumapo who chaired the function, expressed gratitude for the job avenues that were going to be created by the launch of the newspaper in the area.
He said sensational writings should be avoided to promote good patronage of the paper, and those who would have the opportunity to be employed to work hard so that the newspaper would not become a nine- day wonder.**
