Vice-President of IMANI Africa Kofi Bentil says further officials must be held accountable over the visa scandal linked to activities surrounding the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Bentil called for the Sports Minister and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) to leave their posts.
“More heads must roll. The Sports Minister and the CEO of the Ghana Tourism Authority must step aside,” he said on Key Points on TV3 on Saturday, October 10.
The Minority in Parliament has also demanded the immediate dismissal of Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams and the GTA chief executive over alleged visa fraud connected with the tournament.
The caucus said the two officials should face investigation into the alleged collection and movement of money, the compilation and submission of institutional lists, and the alleged creation of non-existent positions to support the fraud.
Speaking to journalists in Parliament on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Youth and Sports Committee, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, said anyone found culpable after an investigation should be prosecuted.
“We therefore call for the immediate dismissal of Honourable Kofi Adams, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, and the immediate dismissal of the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority.
“Their continued stay in office in the face of the questions surrounding the roles of their respective institutions cannot be allowed to undermine public confidence in the investigation,” Assafuah said.
The Minority also called for a full inquiry into the alleged criminal activity, arguing that neither the Sports Minister nor the GTA chief executive could have been unaware of what was taking place.
“The Minister cannot escape liability. We therefore demand full investigation into the Minister’s knowledge, authorization, participation and role in that process,” the caucus said.
It added that the GTA should also be investigated because it had an institutional relationship with Tribe Culture Fest and was not an outside party to the agreement.
“The Ghana Tourism Authority must equally be fully investigated. The GTA was not an outsider to this agreement. Tribe Culture Fest had an institutional relationship with the authority.
“We are calling for the GTA Boss to be sacked immediately, and where the evidence establishes that the Minister, the GTA Boss or any other official knowingly authorized or facilitated or enabled criminal conduct, we call for their prosecution,” Assafuah said.
The caucus further disclosed that the GTA had sent the United States Embassy a list of 50 people identified as media personnel for purposes associated with World Cup activities.
However, the US Embassy’s Fraud Prevention Unit carried out due diligence and verification checks on the names, raising questions about the authenticity and professional status of many of those listed.
“Of the 50 names submitted, only two persons were identified as media practitioners. The 48 were not media practitioners,” Assafuah said, citing records available to the Minority.
