Bank of Ghana Governor Johnson Pandit Asiama has called on financial institutions to reinforce their risk management frameworks and adopt sustainable business models to protect progress made in Ghana’s banking sector.
He also urged banks to improve their institutional resilience, saying the industry must be better prepared to withstand future challenges while continuing to support the country’s economic development.

He said the banking sector had made significant progress in recent years, pointing to stronger capital positions, improved financial stability and a reduction in non-performing loans.
The Governor said those gains should provide a foundation for further improvements in governance, risk management and innovation. He encouraged banks to maintain sound oversight and take a prudent approach to managing risk as they develop their businesses.
“Our ambition should be to build a banking sector that is strong enough to absorb shocks, innovative enough to adapt to change, and capable of financing Ghana’s long-term economic transformation,” he said.
Dr Asiama said the Bank of Ghana remained committed to working closely with the banking industry and other stakeholders.
That cooperation, he added, would help create a financial sector that is sound, resilient, innovative and sustainable, while supporting economic growth and development.
