Ghana still has judges with integrity – Mahama

President John Mahama has commended the Chief Justice and the judicial committee that investigated the judicial corruption scandal for resisting attempts by some of the implicated judges to bully journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his investigative team who embarked on the project.

According to him, the gesture is an indication that Ghana still has men of high moral standards and integrity on the bench in spite of the indignity that has smeared the judiciary.

The expose’ by Anas and his Tiger Eye PI investigation team led to the dismissal of 21 lower court judges and several workers of the judicial service. Some of the judges are fighting their dismissal and Anas’ right to investigate them in court. Some have gone ahead to describe the investigators as criminals.

Delivering his last State of the Nation Address in parliament Wednesday, the President promised to give the chief justice all the needed support to enable her stamp out corruption entirely in the judiciary.

“We still have many judges on the bench who are upright and are of great integrity…I wish to commend the Chief Justice for her work on the Anas investigation and wish to assure her that my government will give her all the necessary support to enable her fight corruption in the judiciary,” he stated.
